"Phat" Darrell
By Frank Solares
Darrell Rasner came up big for the Yankees today, a day after Kei Igawa was horrible. The Man that started the year in triple A has started 08 MLB season 2-0. He looked very impressive shutting down the mighty Detroit offense.
Rasner's numbers 6 in 4 Hits 2 Runs 1K settled down from first inning, after giving up a HR to Joyce.
The 27 Year old did what Kennedy and Hughes could not do this year. That is, win two games lasting 6 strong innings in back to back starts. Rasner who has 4 strong pitches relied on his change and spotted his fast ball well. Despite the 1k he had many outs on 84 to 88 mile per hour pitches.
One more victory and he will equal his 3 game winning streak, and tied his career high. This month and last month have been very stress-full for the Yanks. They do not seem to get out of 500.
Even Captain was impressed with Darrell's performance. Nothing that he shutdown a lineup like that was impressive.
Notes from Game
Derek hit his first homerun this year, taking the Bonderman pitch over the right field fence.
Abreu went two for four, scoring to very important runs to aid the Yanks stop the losing streak.
Wilson Betemit had to be pulled from the game after hurting his hamstring, was then put on the 15 day DL list. (it is a mash unit)
Mo picked up his 10 Save of the year. Joba had no fist pumps, and one strikeout.
