Yanks awesome in final opener.

By Frank Solares

The Yankees were fired up at the beginning of the game and through out. Instead of the last opening day in Yankee Stadium, it felt like a post season game.

Ching Ming Wang was very pumped up through out the game, and despite the fact that he had two extra days of rest, he out pitched Doc Halladay winning his first his first decision of 08.

Alex Rodriguez looked in mid season form, he doubled in Abreu in the first and scored a key run on a fielders choice by Matsui.

Got Melky

Yet the star of the Game was Melki Cabrera! GOT Defense Melki? Had two great defensive plays in the night aiding Wang keep Toronto of the board. GOT Power? Had a game winning homerun in the bottom of the night to help the Yankees win first game of the year.

Relief!

Late in the year last year if the Yankees were on top JOBA pitched the eighth and MO the ninth. This spring Girardi made the decision to start the year with Chamberlain in the bullpen. It is to early to tell but as far as tonight it worked as plan. JOBA in the eighth he got the big Hurt to strike out, and MO came in the ninth to record his 444 career save. Mariano said. " I thank the good lord for wearing the uniform"

Despite that this night was a little more special to Joe Girardi. Mariano added. " I knew the ball was going to my manager I told him congratulations and gave him the ball."

So the Magic Number is now 99. If tonight is any indication it will be a great year.
